Job Description

Under the direction of the Melt Manager, the Cupola Supervisor oversees the safe and efficient operation of the Cupola and Electric Furnace, ensuring the production of high-quality iron. The Cupola Supervisor will also supervise hourly team members engaged in the production of high-quality iron used to cast iron pipe on fittings.

Job Description

Operational Management

• Ensure the safe operation of the Cupola and supervise team members during all phases of iron production.
• Monitor and record process parameters during Cupola operations, including chemistry, temperature, wind rate, and back pressure.
• Oversee the tapping of the Cupola during start-up and the bottom drop during shutdowns.
• Conduct periodic checks of tuyeres for water leakage or blockages.

Quality Assurance

• Analyze and control the quality of iron by performing and verifying chemistry adjustments (e.g., C and Si additions) to meet specifications.
• Record and monitor Cupola and furnace iron chemistry at 30-minute intervals.
• Approve the quality of iron before release for production.
• Inspect the iron trough clearance for uniform flow and ensure proper water flow on the Cupola shell.

Leadership and Supervision

• Plan, prioritize, and schedule production activities to ensure safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Supervise personnel involved in producing high strength cast iron, ensuring adherence to company policies and production requirements.
• Coordinate with Maintenance personnel to inspect, repair, and maintain equipment and machinery.
• Provide direction to Ladle Lining personnel, ensuring timely and adequate repairs for production needs.

Administrative Duties

• Complete all required paperwork, including production logs, chemistry analyses, and operational records.
• Maintain accurate documentation of production processes and iron chemistry adjustments.
• Recommend and assist in implementing changes to melting methods and processes to improve quality and productivity.

Demonstrate a dedication to safety by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering and working in the plant.

Keep work area clean, safe, and orderly.

Complete other duties as assigned by Melt Manager.

Qualifications

• Experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing facility OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience operating a Cupola, Electric Furnace, or producing hot metal.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in monitoring and regulating chemistry analysis of raw materials.
• Four (4) or more years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Secondary schooling in engineering field preferred but not required.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and always follow safety rules/procedures.
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
