Started by Stanford/MIT serial entrepreneurs, Ruby Robotics is maximizing patient outcomes with tissue insights at the point of care. Using custom-built hardware and AI, our platform optimizes biopsy and surgical procedure workflow while delivering disease analytics early in the patient’s journey. This facilitates faster, more informed treatment decisions for patients as well as improved staffing and operational workflow for hospitals. Funded by healthcare and deep tech VCs, our team is lean, fast, and works intensely towards the goal of improving cancer patient care.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Software Engineer who will develop and maintain the frontend and backend software systems for our novel medical instruments.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to see a project through product development, commercialization, and post commercialization improvements requiring excellent technical and organizational skills, ability to react to frequent physician feedback, and strong attention to detail. They will have a proven track record of developing, scaling, and maintaining robust frontend and backend systems, ensuring scalability, security, and low-latency data transmission in the regulated medical field. Candidates with experience in security engineering and encryption, including intrusion detection and monitoring in cloud database solutions, will stand out. For qualified candidates, there will be opportunities to expand leadership responsibility across Ruby’s software team. Although we are open to a hybrid role, preference will be given for candidates who are open to working daily on-site with our engineers in San Carlos CA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Optimize client- server pipeline to encrypt and transmit data to support ultra-low-latency image transfer as part of a real-time telecollaboration system
  • Implement and maintain secure and highly-available cloud infrastructure on AWS for services e.g. ECS, S3, Lambda
  • Develop and maintain desktop applications for Windows and macOS using Dart under the Flutter framework
  • Lead software architecture discussions, and support user studies as needed
  • Ensure secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI) by implementing robust security and compliance strategies
  • Collaborate with a cross functional team of product managers, AI scientists, hardware engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver seamless applications
  • Communicate technical challenges, solutions, and progress to non-technical stakeholders
  • Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement enhancements to improve efficiency and reliability
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code while ensuring adherence to best practices
  • Perform design and code reviews and manage documentation to ensure traceability across the product development process
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to facilitate rapid and reliable releases and deployments

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive post-graduate experience as a software engineer in the medical field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in full stack development
  • Expertise in building and optimizing socket servers for large data sets with real-time server-client communication, ideally on SignalR in .NET framework
  • Experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure using AWS including infrastructure provisioning, software deployment and testing
  • Strong understanding of software development processes and methodologies
  • Experience handling and securing PHI with a strong understanding of security protocols and HIPAA compliance, is a plus
  • Solid understanding of software architecture principles, RESTful API design, and microservices
  • Works well in a small agile startup team
  • Strong team player who believes that collaboration, trust, dedication, resilience, continuous improvement, ownership and accountability are the path to success
  • Ability to work on-site at our San Carlos CA facility at least 2 days a week (additional days on-site preferred)
