Job Description

Development Services Group, Inc. (DSG), a prominent national social sciences research and management consulting firm, is headquartered in Bethesda, Md. Over the past four decades, we have served the U.S. Departments of Education, Justice (DOJ), Health and Human Services, and State, as well as many state and local agencies. We develop a wide range of high-quality, multidisciplinary services and products to meet our clients’ needs. Since 1977, we’ve been leading the way in finding, assessing, and applying what works in education, criminal justice, juvenile justice, and victim services. We are seeking additional qualified personnel to augment our research analysis team on contracts in the U.S. Department of Education.

DSG is seeking Research Analysts to join our team on several high-profile evaluations for the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES). These projects support postsecondary education research that builds knowledge in service of improving student outcomes, such as enrollment, credit accumulation, graduation, student debt, tuition costs, employment, and earnings.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

Senior Research Analysts

  • Senior Research Analysts play a central role in designing and executing rigorous research involving primary data collection as well as using state longitudinal data systems (SLDS), the National Student Clearinghouse, and other linked datasets.
  • Lead quantitative and qualitative data analyses.
  • Translate findings into both technical reports and accessible products for policymakers, practitioners, and the public.
  • Assess program impacts across multiple states or nationally.
  • Draft high-quality technical reports suitable for peer review.
  • Develop non-technical briefs and presentations for broad dissemination.
  • Collaborate with higher education experts and federal partners.
  • Support advisory panel meetings with national experts.

  • Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ experience in applied research/evaluation.
  • Expertise in causal inference and longitudinal data analysis.
  • Experience with education datasets (e.g., SLDS, NSC, NCES).
  • Must have content knowledge of postsecondary education research.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Education Requisite: Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in education policy, economics, sociology, statistics, or related field.
  • Salary Range: $110,000 to $140,000

 

Junior Research Analysts

  • Junior Research Analysts play a supportive role in designing and executing rigorous research involving primary data collection as well as using state longitudinal data systems (SLDS), the National Student Clearinghouse, and other linked datasets.
  • Support quantitative and qualitative data analyses.
  • Help translate findings into both technical reports and accessible products for policymakers, practitioners, and the public.
  • Support assessing program impacts across multiple states or nationally.
  • Contribute to high-quality technical reports suitable for peer review, non-technical briefs, and presentations for broad dissemination.
  • Support advisory panel meetings with national experts.

 

  • Qualifications
  • 5+ years’ experience in applied research/evaluation.
  • Able to conduct analyses using SAS, SPSS, R, or Stata, etc.
  • Experience with databases and analyses.
  • Must have content knowledge of education research.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Education Requisite: Master’s degree in education policy, economics, sociology, statistics, or related field.
  • Salary Range: $60,000 to $95,000
