The Juarez Lab is dedicated to groundbreaking research on the strategies used by pathogenic bacteria to infect human cells and ensure their survival within the body. We employ a range of methods including biochemical, computational, microbiological, molecular, and cellular biology techniques. Our goal is to develop new antibiotics specifically targeting multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a highly motivated and driven Postdoctoral Researcher at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for conducting experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to research projects aimed at understanding bacterial pathogenesis, characterizing bacterial proteins and developing new antibiotics. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with team members, preparing research findings for publication, and potentially assisting with teaching and training junior lab members.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Laboratory Skills and Research
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
• Strong record of publications (>5 as first author in prestigious journals are preferred)
• Successful applicants should have expertise in one of the next areas: Biophysical and Biochemical methods to study proteins (Cryo-EM, Crystallography, Enzyme kinetics) or 2) molecular microbiology methods (gene knockout/ knockdown, microscopy, PCR, gene cloning, etc).
• Experience in docking and computational methods to study proteins is a plus
