We are seeking an experienced Chemist to join our team, specializing in DNA extraction from fish sperm, particularly from Salmon and Trout. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in molecular biology and demonstrate precision and reliability in lab practices.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Perform high-throughput and manual DNA extraction from fish sperm (Salmon & Trout).
+ Ensure the integrity and quality of extracted DNA using various quality control (QC) methods.
+ Receive, log, and prepare biological samples for DNA analysis.
+ Maintain accurate, thorough, and compliant documentation of lab activities and results.
+ Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures (SOPs), including Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) protocols.
+ Identify and resolve issues related to DNA isolation and quality control.
+ Follow protocols for sample collection, storage, and handling to preserve sample integrity.
+ Implement and maintain QC procedures to ensure reliable and accurate results.
**Qualifications & Requirements:**
+ B.A./B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience in a molecular biology lab environment (academic or industry).
+ Demonstrated expertise in DNA isolation, purification, and quality control procedures.
+ Strong attention to detail and thorough understanding of laboratory best practices.
+ Ability to troubleshoot DNA isolation and QC issues and run lab automation protocols.
+ Hands-on experience with DNA extraction techniques including:
+ DNA isolation and purification
+ DNA fragmentation methods (e.g., restriction digest, sonication, nebulization, needle shearing, high-frequency acoustic energy transmission).
+ Agile learner with the ability to execute tasks in a timely and efficient manner.This job description is a complete list of all desired skills, but not all are required.
