Job Description

Job Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the Human Resources Manager, the HR Intern is responsible for daily HR functions that support the HR team. Additionally, the intern will conduct research to develop and document HR and payroll workflows to support the pending HRIS implementation. The intern is expected to work efficiently with both the HR team and independently to accomplish project timelines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop understanding of HR sub-functions by learning and supporting daily HR tasks.
  • Research and document workflows where critical touchpoints occur impacting benefits. Areas of focus include: Payroll changes, union contract requirements resulting in benefit changes, short and long-term disability, 401k payments and others as applicable.
  • Utilize strong computer software skills to document HR workflows using tool such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio, Microsoft Project, and other programs as applicable.
  • Create a master grid for retirement program benefits ranging across all employee groups, classifications and union contracts.
  • As time permits, shadow with HR team for additional exposure to various parts of HR.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned by HR Manager.

Position Qualifications:

  • Working towards a HR or business degree.
  • Ability to maintain confidential of information.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft office software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Additional software program knowledge is a benefit.
  • Eagerness to learn and ability to apply learnings quickly.
