Director of Operations

Industry: Upscale retail boutique & event space

Location: St. Louis, MO

Schedule: Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm with flexibility for occasional events

Compensation: Annual salary of $80,000 - $90,000 + bonuses, benefits package

Summary of Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of retail experience at the manager level or above
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience
  • 3+ years of retail budget management experience
  • Demonstrated inventory management skills
  • Demonstrated vendor management skills
  • Ability to travel to Tallahassee, FL for 4 days every other month

About Us: Hearth & Soul is an upscale retail boutique and event space with locations in St. Louis, MO and Tallahassee, FL. Its hallmark is the unique setup resembling a private residence with distinct spaces for the kitchen, hearth room, library, dining room, men’s and women’s closets, bed and bath, mudroom and pet corner, and outdoor patio. As part of the mission to feed people’s souls and bring communities together, we host monthly events that highlight a local wellness organization and nonprofit. We are looking for a Director of Operations who will join the Leadership Team as a Profit-Sharing Partner to drive excellence for our brand.

About This Role: The Director of Operations is responsible for the operational quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of Hearth & Soul with a direct impact on excellence of customer care. The right candidate will have experience as a leader in the luxury retail space and be comfortable supervising operations, managing the budget, and performing inventory (among more daily tasks). There are tasks we can train on, but we ask for a few non-negotiables. The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Understands retail data analytics and can both produce and interpret reports for management
  • Emphasizes organization and efficiency across all areas of the store space including back of house
  • Is comfortable managing a team and collaborating with leadership to work toward company goals
  • Maintains open lines of communication with vendors, staff, leadership, and customers
  • Has a keen eye for detail and takes ownership of their work
  • Is looking for a career with a family brand focused on "hospitality retail" and community building

Essential Tasks

While members of the leadership team wear many hats, below is a summary of what you may be doing on any given day:

  • Manages shipping, receiving, transfers, house maintenance, organization and cleanliness, damages and returns
  • Performs inventory management (company wide); one store wide inventory count/store per year with mini inventories as necessary
  • Creates and interprets data analytics reports to support store selling and operational efficiency
  • Manages store back of house organization and cleanliness to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services
  • Provides direct supervision to store-level Operations Managers
  • Oversees company processes and procedures while working with Operations Managers to keep in-store procedure manuals up to date
  • Maintains Operations Manager team including hiring, training, and continued development
  • Researches and recommends new technology acquisition; acts as first point of contact for all technology troubleshooting that cannot be resolved at the store level
  • Works with store Operations Managers to monitor store supplies inventory and allocates from supply warehouses in a timely and efficient manner
  • Budgets and manages store supplies and associated packaging
  • Conducts quality control store visits every other month (3-4 days) to flagship stores
  • Participates in weekly one-on-one team meetings and monthly financial meetings
  • Serves on New Store Opening Management Team

Requirements

  • 5+ years of retail experience at the manager level or above
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience
  • 3+ years of retail budget management experience
  • Demonstrated inventory management skills
  • Demonstrated vendor management skills
  • Passion for customer service and community involvement
  • Ability to commute to our St. Louis, MO store Monday - Friday and occasional weekends (negotiable for the right candidate willing to travel frequently)
  • Ability to travel to Tallahassee, FL for 4 days on a bimonthly basis
