Data Specialist I

Location: Santa Barbara, CA (Hybrid)

Classification: Non-Exempt

Industry: Healthcare / Managed Care

Compensation : $23.30-$32.62 Hourly

Overview:

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and motivated Data Specialist I to support foundational tasks tied to accurate and timely provider data configuration. This entry-level role is perfect for someone with administrative or clerical experience, ideally in healthcare or data entry, who is ready to grow into a healthcare data career.

This individual will work closely with internal teams to maintain the integrity of the provider database, assist with data entry and documentation verification, and support essential processes within the Provider Services department.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic provider data entry and configuration based on internal reports and guidelines

  • Support vendor configuration and the returned mail process

  • Enter data for newly contracted providers based on credentialing reports and rosters

  • Complete credentialing grids and participate in cleanup projects

  • Collect, verify, and process provider documentation (e.g., W9s, Tax ID, NPI)

  • Conduct provider outreach via phone/email/fax to ensure documentation is up-to-date

  • Escalate issues when appropriate and maintain accurate documentation

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; AA degree preferred

  • 1 year of administrative or clerical experience, ideally in healthcare or data entry

  • Experience with Medi-Cal managed care is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Comfortable working independently and with a team

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
